How long does it take to cycle the Camel Trail?
- Padstow to Wadebridge is 5 miles normally taking 45 mins – 1 hour
- Wadebridge to Bodmin is 6.1 miles normally taking 1 hour – 1.15 mins
- Bodmin to Wenfordbridge (the end) is 7.1 miles taking approx 1.30 mins
Is the Camel Trail traffic Free?
The Camel Trail is traffic free, however to join the Bodmin section you will have to cycle on the road through the town of Wadebridge in the cycle lane. (approximately 5 mins). We do however recommend walking through the town.
Do you open in the evenings?
From 15th July – 31st August – Monday – Thursday 9am – 8pm. Fri – Sun 9am – 6pm.
Are there any toilets on the trail?
The only public toilets are located in the towns of Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin.
What happens if we break down?
We will supply customers with puncture repair kits, if you have a more serious breakdown we will try and reach you to either repair the bike or bring another bike to you. We do have a reciprocal agreement with another bicycle hire company in Wadebridge and Bodmin who will be happy to help.
Are there any places to stop and eat or drink?
Between Padstow and Wadebridge there is a mobile catering trailer serving refreshments. Wadebridge offers plenty of places to eat and drink. Between Wadebridge and Bodmin there are Tea rooms and the Camel Valley Vineyard or the Borough Arms inn at Bodmin. At the end of the trail is Snails Pace Cafe (we suggest you phone and check opening hours as some places are seasonal)
Can we cycle one way?
We have an arrangement with a bicycle hire company in Wadebridge where bikes can be left if you only want to cycle one way, this does not include Tandems, Tricycles, Trailers, Dog Trailer, Electric Bikes and Tagalongs. This arrangement must be made while you are hiring the bikes. Extra charges do apply.
Can we take dogs on the trail?
Dogs are allowed on the trail but should be kept on a lead. We do hire dog trailers, these are enclosed cages with side and roof protection from the elements.

Do we have to wear helmets?
Helmets are not compulsory, however we do recommend everyone wears one.
What age do children have to be to ride in trailers and child seats?
We advise that children using a rear child seat need to be at least 12 months old and no less than 9 kilo and no more than 22 kilo in weight.
Trailers carry 1 or 2 children up to a maximum weight of 100lbs (45 kilo). Young babies need to be at least 9 months old before being able to sit in a trailer. They do have a five point harness and a lap belt. We do not fit car seats in trailers.
Do we need to pay for the car park?
The car park where we are located is a council car park and needs to be paid for. The machine uses the RingGo app – location 2849, the Ringo App, does not take notes (coins only). At busier times a park and ride is operated in the field next to Tescos (check availability).
Is the trail flat?
The trail is a former disused railway line which is now a cycling and walking path and has a level service all the way.
What identification do I need to bring with me?
We do ask one member of your group to LEAVE identification with us whilst the bikes are out on hire. This needs to be in the form of a drivers licence, credit or debit card, identification card or passport. These are kept securely until your return.
Is it a daily rate?
Our daily rate is 9am – 5pm. We have a reduced rate from 1.30pm – 5pm (not pre bookable) .
Where can we park the bikes in Wadebridge?
We supply customers with locks for the bikes. There are designated areas in Wadebridge for securing bikes.
Do we have to stay on the Camel Tail?
No, the bikes can be used anywhere.
Can you take bikes on the Ferry to Rock?
Bikes can be taken on the ferry at a small charge.
Do we need to reserve bikes?
We do advise booking bikes 48 hours in advance especially during school and bank holidays. It is highly recommended to book online for advance bookings.
Please call our shop on 01841 533533 or 07732 329802 between 9am – 5pm to reserve bikes on the day. We do not take bookings by email.
What happens if we need to change/cancel our booking?
No problem, just contact the shop at least 24hrs beforehand and we will transfer your booking to another day of your choice (subject to availability) or cancel if required.
